How do I get my Scottsdale med spa into Google's AI Overviews?
The Aesthetic Shortlist · Updated September 26, 2026
Google says there are no additional requirements or special optimizations for AI Overviews: a Scottsdale med spa's page has to be indexed and eligible to appear in Google Search with a snippet, and no AI text file or special schema is needed. We did not measure AI Overviews, but in 234 AI answers about Scottsdale med spas, measured September 16, 2026, the assistants we did measure cited Scottsdale practice websites treatment by treatment, such as koraaesthetics.com in 11 lip filler answers. The practical work is ordinary: a separate, indexable page for each treatment that answers what Scottsdale patients ask.
Do I need an llms.txt file or special schema for my Scottsdale med spa to show up in AI Overviews?
A Scottsdale med spa does not need an llms.txt file or special schema for AI Overviews. Google says a site does not need new machine-readable files, AI text files, special markup or special schema.org structured data to appear in its AI features, and that statement covers Google Search only, not the ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Perplexity assistants, the five we measured in Scottsdale.
This is worth knowing before a Scottsdale practice pays for anything sold as a requirement for Google's AI features. Google says the SEO fundamentals that apply to regular Search still apply, and that no special optimization is needed.
It does not follow that structured data is useless. Structured data that already describes the practice accurately, its Scottsdale address, hours and treatments, can stay where it is.
What does Google require for a Scottsdale med spa page to appear in an AI Overview?
Google says a page must be indexed and eligible to appear in Google Search with a snippet to be shown as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and that there are no additional technical requirements. For a Scottsdale med spa, that applies page by page: the Botox page, the lip filler page and the Morpheus8 page each have to be indexed, and Google adds that indexing and serving isn't guaranteed.
That turns the question into two plainer ones. Is each treatment page in Google's index, which the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console will show, and is anything on the page stopping Google from showing a snippet? Google names the controls that limit what it shows: nosnippet, max-snippet and noindex. A Scottsdale treatment page carrying one of those tags, sometimes left over from a site rebuild, cannot be a supporting link in an AI Overview.
Google also lists making sure structured data matches the visible text on the page, and keeping Business Profile information up to date, among its fundamentals for AI features, as good practice rather than ranking factors. In practice, the address, hours and services on the practice's Google Business Profile should match what its website says about the Scottsdale location.
Does Google-Extended decide whether my Scottsdale med spa appears in AI Overviews?
Google-Extended does not decide whether a Scottsdale med spa appears in AI Overviews. Google says Google-Extended controls whether content may be used to train Gemini models and to ground Gemini Apps and Vertex AI, and does not affect inclusion or ranking in Google Search; for AI features inside Search, Google says robots.txt rules for Googlebot are the control.
Owners sometimes mix up Gemini and AI Overviews because both come from Google. They are separate products. Gemini was one of the five assistants we asked about Scottsdale med spas, and for Botox in Scottsdale its top three were Ultra Smooth Skin, Adam & Eve Medical Aesthetics and The Skin Shop Medspa; for Morpheus8 they were MDSkin Lounge, Scottsdale Center for Plastic Surgery and Natural Results Plastic Surgery & MedSpa. Those are Gemini answers, not AI Overviews, and they should not be read as a preview of what Google Search shows.
Googlebot is the setting that matters for Search, including its AI features. A robots.txt rule or firewall that blocks Googlebot from a Scottsdale practice's treatment pages keeps those pages out of both regular results and AI Overviews.
How does Google choose which pages to link in an AI Overview about a Scottsdale treatment?
Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode may run multiple related searches across subtopics, which it calls query fan-out, and can show a wider set of links than a classic search; Google does not publish how many run or which pages are chosen. In the AI assistant answers we measured about CoolSculpting and body contouring in Scottsdale, the cited sites were a mix of realself.com in 13 answers, thebodify.com in 10 and yelp.com in 10.
Our reading, which is advice and not a statement from Google, is that a Scottsdale patient's question about a treatment has several parts. Someone asking about body contouring in Scottsdale may also want to know what the appointment involves, how many sessions it takes and who performs it. A treatment page that answers those questions in plain text gives each related search something to find.
The mix of review sites and practice sites in the Scottsdale body contouring answers is co-occurrence, measured in AI assistants rather than AI Overviews. It shows that both kinds of site get read, not that either one decides who is named.
What should my Scottsdale med spa work on first for AI Overviews?
The first work for AI Overviews is the same as the first work for Google Search: every treatment the Scottsdale med spa offers should have its own page that Googlebot can crawl, that is indexed, and that is not hiding its snippet. In the Scottsdale AI answers we measured, practice websites were cited for every one of the five treatments, including scottsdalecenterforplasticsurgery.com in 8 Morpheus8 answers.
-
koraaesthetics.com, lip filler
-
thebodify.com, body contouring
-
scottsdalecenterforplasticsurgery.com, Morpheus8
-
skinspirit.com, Botox
-
adamandevemedspa.com, weight loss (GLP-1)
Measured September 16, 2026, in 234 AI answers about Scottsdale med spas from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity. Each row counts answers about that one treatment. AI Overviews were not part of this measurement, and a citation shows co-occurrence, not the reason a practice was named.
See the numbers as a table
| Practice website and treatment | Answers citing it |
|---|---|
| koraaesthetics.com, lip filler | 11 |
| thebodify.com, body contouring | 10 |
| scottsdalecenterforplasticsurgery.com, Morpheus8 | 8 |
| skinspirit.com, Botox | 7 |
| adamandevemedspa.com, weight loss (GLP-1) | 7 |
We measured AI assistants, not AI Overviews, so the chart is not a statement about Google Search. It does show that across 134 of those 234 Scottsdale answers that cited a website, the assistants read practice websites for each treatment, which is why a separate page per treatment is worth the time. The detail is on each treatment page: lip filler, body contouring, Morpheus8, Botox and weight loss (GLP-1).
Questions owners ask
Can I pay Google to put my Scottsdale med spa in AI Overviews?
Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google. For AI Overviews, the requirement Google gives a Scottsdale med spa is a page that is indexed and eligible to appear in Search with a snippet.
Can my Scottsdale med spa opt out of AI Overviews but keep a normal Google listing?
Google says nosnippet, max-snippet and noindex limit what is shown in its AI features. Those are the same controls that shape a page's snippet and indexing in regular Search, so a Scottsdale practice that uses them changes both.
Does adding FAQ schema get a Scottsdale med spa page into AI Overviews?
Google says special schema.org structured data is not needed to appear in its AI features. Structured data on a Scottsdale med spa page should match the visible text, which Google presents as good practice rather than a way into AI Overviews.
Is what Gemini says about Scottsdale med spas the same as an AI Overview?
Gemini and AI Overviews are separate Google products. Our Scottsdale measurement covered Gemini as one of five assistants and did not include AI Overviews, so Gemini's Scottsdale answers are not a preview of Google Search.
