Why doesn't AI recommend my Scottsdale med spa?
The Aesthetic Shortlist · Updated September 26, 2026
In 234 AI answers about Scottsdale med spas, measured September 16, 2026, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok each kept their own short list for each treatment, such as The Flawless Lab, ZONA Med Spa and Moderne Medical Aesthetics from ChatGPT for Botox, and no Scottsdale practice made every assistant's top three for any treatment. OpenAI says ChatGPT cannot show a site that blocks its search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, and that placement is not guaranteed even when the site can be reached; Anthropic and Perplexity name their own search crawlers, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot. The practical work for a Scottsdale owner is to confirm those crawlers are allowed, then make each treatment page answer the questions Scottsdale patients ask.
Which Scottsdale med spas do AI assistants name for each treatment?
In 234 AI answers about Scottsdale med spas, measured September 16, 2026, each assistant named its own practices. For Botox in Scottsdale, the three ChatGPT named most often were The Flawless Lab, ZONA Med Spa and Moderne Medical Aesthetics, while Gemini named Ultra Smooth Skin, Adam & Eve Medical Aesthetics and The Skin Shop Medspa, and Perplexity named Arizona Facial Plastics, MDSkin Lounge Scottsdale and Bella Medspa. For lip filler ChatGPT named Moderne Medical, Glo Medspa and MDSkin Lounge, and for Morpheus8 it named Scottsdale Skin Boutique & Dermatology, AdmireMD Plastic Surgery + Skin Clinic and Method Aesthetics.
Picture a Scottsdale owner who types “who does Botox in Scottsdale” into an AI assistant between appointments and reads a list with no mention of her own practice. That list is one assistant's answer to one question, and the Scottsdale data shows how differently each assistant builds it.
For CoolSculpting and body contouring in Scottsdale, ChatGPT's three most-named practices were True Contour Medical, Gerrish MedEsthetics and B Blume Skin & Body. For semaglutide, they were NuGen Medicine, Scottsdale Weight Loss Center and Vitality Slim Clinic. Each treatment's full picture, across all five assistants, is on its own page: Botox, lip filler, Morpheus8, body contouring and weight loss (GLP-1).
ChatGPT's lip filler list lined up with the whole sample. Moderne Medical Aesthetics, MDSkin Lounge and Glo Medspa were also the three names mentioned most across all 46 answers on the Scottsdale lip filler page. For the other four treatments, ChatGPT's list and the overall leaders overlapped by one name or none.
Do ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok name the same Scottsdale med spas?
The five AI assistants did not name the same Scottsdale med spas. For Botox, lip filler, Morpheus8 and CoolSculpting across five assistants, and semaglutide across four, no single Scottsdale practice appeared in every assistant's top three, in 234 answers measured September 16, 2026.

The overlaps with ChatGPT were partial. For Botox, Grok also put The Flawless Lab and Zona Med Spa in its top three, while Claude named Sachi Aesthetics, DHH Med Spa and Wolin Plastic Surgery Center. For Morpheus8, Claude shared one name with ChatGPT, AdmireMD Plastic Surgery + Skin Clinic. For semaglutide, Scottsdale Weight Loss Center appeared in the top three from ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. For lip filler, Claude's top three were KORA Aesthetics, Alani Skin MD and Phoenix Skin Medical, Surgical, & Cosmetic Dermatology, none of which were in ChatGPT's.
For a Scottsdale owner this cuts both ways. Being missing from ChatGPT's Botox list says nothing about Gemini's, and being on Gemini's list says nothing about ChatGPT's. Our guide on why AI assistants name different Scottsdale med spas goes further into that gap.
Can AI assistants see my Scottsdale med spa website at all?
ChatGPT's search features find websites through a crawler called OAI-SearchBot, and OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. A Scottsdale med spa website that blocks OAI-SearchBot cannot be one of the sites ChatGPT reads when a patient asks about Botox or Morpheus8 in Scottsdale, and 134 of the 234 Scottsdale answers we measured cited at least one website. The other companies that publish crawler rules say much the same: Anthropic says blocking Claude-SearchBot may reduce a site's visibility in Claude's search results, and Perplexity recommends allowing PerplexityBot so a site can appear in its search results.
OpenAI's help page says that to make a website eligible for inclusion, the owner should allow OAI-SearchBot and confirm that the website host or content delivery network allows traffic from OpenAI's published searchbot IP addresses. Those are two separate places a crawler can be refused. A robots.txt file can allow OAI-SearchBot while a firewall or bot-protection setting at the host still turns it away, so a Scottsdale practice should check both.
OpenAI treats search crawling and training crawling as independent settings. A Scottsdale med spa can allow OAI-SearchBot so it can appear in ChatGPT search while disallowing GPTBot, the crawler OpenAI uses for training data.
Do AI assistants read Scottsdale med spa websites, or only Yelp and directories?
AI answers about Scottsdale med spas cite practices' own websites as well as Yelp and directories. For semaglutide in Scottsdale, the websites of all three practices ChatGPT named most often, nugenmedicine.com, scottsdaleweightloss.com and vitalityslimclinic.com, were among the sites cited in Scottsdale semaglutide answers.

The same pattern shows up in other treatments. ChatGPT named True Contour Medical for body contouring, and truecontourmedical.com was cited in 6 Scottsdale body contouring answers. ChatGPT named AdmireMD for Morpheus8, and admireplasticsurgery.com was cited in 7 Scottsdale Morpheus8 answers. These counts show that the assistants read Scottsdale practice websites; they do not show that a website caused ChatGPT to name a practice.
The practical move is to give each treatment its own page that says, in plain text, what the treatment is, who performs it, and that the practice is in Scottsdale. A page an assistant can read and quote gives it more to work with than a page that only shows a booking button.
If AI assistants can reach my Scottsdale med spa website, why do they still name other practices?
Reaching a Scottsdale med spa's website makes it eligible; it does not decide which practices an AI assistant names. OpenAI says ChatGPT ranks search results using multiple factors intended to help users find relevant, reliable information, that placement is not guaranteed, and it does not publish the factors, so no one outside OpenAI can say why ChatGPT named The Flawless Lab for Botox in Scottsdale.
Any list that claims to be ChatGPT's ranking factors is a guess. What OpenAI does say is short: any public website can appear in ChatGPT search, and the requirement it gives for inclusion in summaries and snippets is not blocking OAI-SearchBot. Microsoft likewise says that optimizing for AI answers does not guarantee grounding or citations in AI experiences.
How can I tell whether AI assistants are sending Scottsdale patients to my website?
ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to the links it sends, so visits from ChatGPT search show in analytics tools such as Google Analytics. For a Scottsdale med spa, that parameter only marks people who clicked through; it does not count the answers in which ChatGPT named the practice, and a single Scottsdale answer named 6.4 practices on average. We have not found a first-party page describing how Gemini, Claude, Perplexity or Grok label the visits they send, so we make no statement about them.
A Scottsdale practice that sees no ChatGPT visits has learned that nobody clicked a link, which is a narrower fact than never being mentioned. Asking all five assistants the same Scottsdale questions again over time, and comparing the names against the treatment pages above, is the only way to see the mentions themselves.
Questions owners ask
Is there a form to submit my Scottsdale med spa to AI assistants?
OpenAI's publisher FAQ says any public website can appear in ChatGPT search and gives not blocking OAI-SearchBot as the requirement for inclusion in summaries and snippets. OpenAI also says placement is not guaranteed, for a Scottsdale med spa or any other site. Perplexity recommends allowing PerplexityBot so a site can appear in its search results.
Will blocking AI training crawlers keep my Scottsdale med spa out of AI search?
OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot are independent settings, so a Scottsdale med spa can allow OAI-SearchBot to appear in ChatGPT search while disallowing GPTBot for training. Visibility in ChatGPT search is governed by OAI-SearchBot. Anthropic likewise separates ClaudeBot, which gathers training data, from Claude-SearchBot, and Google says Google-Extended does not affect a site's inclusion in Google Search.
Do AI assistants use Google reviews to choose Scottsdale med spas?
OpenAI does not publish the factors ChatGPT uses to rank search results, and the first-party pages we rely on for Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok do not say how they weigh reviews either, so no one outside those companies can say which review sources they weigh. In 234 AI answers about Scottsdale med spas, 106 used the word review in some form, which shows the topic comes up, not how it is scored.
Is one AI assistant enough for a Scottsdale med spa to check?
In our Scottsdale measurement, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity each named a different top three for every treatment they were asked about, so a check of ChatGPT alone shows one of five lists. Each Scottsdale treatment page shows what all five assistants said.
