AI recommends the med spa down the street in Scottsdale. Why not mine?

The Aesthetic Shortlist · Updated September 26, 2026

AI assistants name Scottsdale med spas from what they can read on the web, and each assistant built its own list for each treatment. In 234 AI answers about Scottsdale med spas, measured September 16, 2026, ChatGPT’s top three for Botox were The Flawless Lab, ZONA Med Spa and Moderne Medical Aesthetics, while Gemini’s were Ultra Smooth Skin, Adam & Eve Medical Aesthetics and The Skin Shop Medspa. A Scottsdale practice missing from those lists can control whether AI crawlers reach its site, whether each treatment has its own clear page, and whether its directory listings are complete.

Why did an AI assistant name another Scottsdale med spa for Botox instead of mine?

AI assistants name Scottsdale med spas from what their search finds and reads, and OpenAI says ChatGPT ranks results using multiple factors that it does not publish. For Botox in Scottsdale, ChatGPT named The Flawless Lab, ZONA Med Spa and Moderne Medical Aesthetics most often in answers measured September 16, 2026. Nobody outside OpenAI can say exactly why those three were chosen.

The moment usually arrives sideways. A patient in your Scottsdale treatment room mentions that an AI assistant told her to try a practice a few minutes from yours, and your name was not in the answer. The answer she read was assembled from web pages, and web pages are something you can change.

OpenAI states that ChatGPT ranks search results using multiple factors intended to surface relevant, reliable information, and that placement is not guaranteed. Microsoft states that generative engine optimization does not guarantee citations in AI experiences. For a Scottsdale owner, the practical move is to open the sites of the practices the AI assistants named for your treatment, side by side with yours, and note what their treatment pages state that yours do not. The full Botox list is on our Botox in Scottsdale page.

Which Scottsdale med spas does AI name most often for each treatment?

AI named a different set of Scottsdale med spas for each treatment we measured. Moderne Medical Aesthetics was named in 19 of the 46 answers behind our Botox in Scottsdale page, MDSkin Lounge Scottsdale in 18 of 56 for body contouring, and Medical Weight Loss Centers of Arizona LLC in 16 of 40 for GLP-1 weight loss. These are counts of what AI said, not a judgement of any practice.

For Botox in Scottsdale, AI named Moderne Medical Aesthetics in 19 of 46 answers, and Adam & Eve Medical Aesthetics and MDSkin Lounge and MDSkin Bar in 14 each.

For lip filler in Scottsdale, AI named Moderne Medical Aesthetics in 16 of 46 answers, MDSkin Lounge and MDSkin Bar in 15 and Glo Medspa in 13.

For Morpheus8 in Scottsdale, AI named Center for Dermatology and Plastic Surgery and MDSkin Lounge and MDSkin Bar in 16 of 46 answers each, and Natural Results Plastic Surgery & MedSpa in 13. For body contouring in Scottsdale, AI named MDSkin Lounge Scottsdale in 18 of 56 answers, Bodify Boutique in 15 and B Blume Skin & Body in 14. For GLP-1 weight loss in Scottsdale, AI named Medical Weight Loss Centers of Arizona LLC in 16 of 40 answers, MDSkin Lounge and MDSkin Bar in 15 and Adam & Eve Medical Aesthetics in 10.

Does every AI assistant name the same Scottsdale med spa down the street?

No single Scottsdale med spa made every AI assistant’s top three for any treatment we measured. For Botox, Moderne Medical Aesthetics led our Scottsdale page with 19 of 46 answers, yet ChatGPT was the only assistant whose top three included it. Being named by one assistant in Scottsdale says little about the others, and being left off one says little about the rest.

Across the 234 Scottsdale answers, the assistants named 516 distinct practices, an average of 6.4 per answer, and the ten most-named practices accounted for 23.1 percent of 1,500 practice mentions. That is a wide field for one city.

The sources shift by treatment. For lip filler in Scottsdale, koraaesthetics.com was cited in 11 of the 32 answers that asked about lip filler by name, and Claude and Grok both put KORA Aesthetics in their lip filler top three. For body contouring, thebodify.com was cited in 10 of 38 answers. We observed these citations appearing alongside the names; we do not claim a citation caused a recommendation.

What can a Scottsdale med spa owner control about whether AI names the practice?

A Scottsdale med spa owner controls three things AI reads: whether the website lets AI crawlers in, whether each treatment has its own page that names Scottsdale, and whether Yelp, MedSpaScout, DiscoverMedSpa and RealSelf profiles are complete. Those four directories were the most cited sites in our Scottsdale measurement. No step guarantees a recommendation.

Start with access. OpenAI says sites that block its crawler, OAI-SearchBot, will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. Perplexity recommends allowing PerplexityBot, and Anthropic says blocking Claude-SearchBot may reduce a site’s visibility in Claude’s search results.

Next, give each treatment its own page. Microsoft says Bing and Copilot are more likely to select pages for grounding and citations when content stands on its own. A page titled for lip filler in Scottsdale, naming who performs it and what a consultation involves, stands on its own in a way a combined injectables paragraph does not.

Then look at your listings. Google says businesses with complete and accurate Business Profile information are more likely to show in local results. That covers Google’s local results only, but the same care belongs on the four directories AI cited most in Scottsdale.

How do I see what AI assistants say about my Scottsdale med spa right now?

Ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity the question a Scottsdale patient would type for each treatment you offer, and record which practices come back. In our Scottsdale measurement the five assistants gave five different top threes for Botox, so one answer on one assistant is an anecdote. The same question across all five shows whether you are missing from one list or from every list.

Ask the way a patient asks, such as “who does natural-looking lip filler in Scottsdale”, then compare the names with our Scottsdale treatment pages.

Questions owners ask

Does a newer Scottsdale med spa get recommended by AI because it is new?

AI assistants do not publish their ranking factors, and OpenAI says only that ChatGPT uses multiple factors and that placement is not guaranteed. We did not measure opening dates. We measured that AI answers about Scottsdale med spas leaned on directory sites such as yelp.com and on practice websites, which a practice of any age can improve.

Can I pay an AI assistant to recommend my Scottsdale med spa?

OpenAI says any public website can appear in ChatGPT search and describes no paid placement or submission form. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google. A Scottsdale med spa earns mentions through what is published about it, not through a payment to the assistant.

Do directory listings matter for AI recommendations of Scottsdale med spas?

Directory sites were the most cited sources in our Scottsdale measurement, with yelp.com cited in 53 of 234 AI answers measured September 16, 2026. That shows directories are part of what AI reads about Scottsdale med spas. It does not show that a listing causes a recommendation, so treat complete listings as groundwork rather than a switch.
