Why do AI assistants recommend different Scottsdale med spas?

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok are built by different companies, and the ones that publish how they read the web use their own crawlers and search systems, so each assistant builds its own list of Scottsdale med spas. For Botox in Scottsdale, measured across 234 AI answers on September 16, 2026, ChatGPT’s top three were The Flawless Lab, ZONA Med Spa and Moderne Medical Aesthetics, while Gemini’s were Ultra Smooth Skin, Adam & Eve Medical Aesthetics and The Skin Shop Medspa, Claude’s were Sachi Aesthetics, DHH Med Spa and Wolin Plastic Surgery Center, and Perplexity’s were Arizona Facial Plastics, MDSkin Lounge Scottsdale and Bella Medspa. No Scottsdale practice made every assistant’s top three for any treatment, so a Scottsdale med spa sits on several separate lists at once.

Why did ChatGPT and Gemini name different Scottsdale med spas for Botox?

ChatGPT and Gemini named different Scottsdale med spas for Botox because OpenAI and Google gather pages with their own crawlers and rank them with their own systems. For Botox in Scottsdale, the two assistants’ top threes did not share a single practice. Two assistants reading the web through two different systems will not always reach the same Scottsdale practices.

It usually starts with a small comparison. You asked ChatGPT who does Botox in Scottsdale and liked what you saw. That evening your front-desk manager asked Gemini on her phone and got a different list. Neither assistant was broken; each answered from its own reading of the web.

OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot is used to surface websites in ChatGPT’s search features, and that ChatGPT search sometimes sends rewritten queries to partner search providers. Google says that for AI features in Search, robots.txt rules for Googlebot are the control, and its separate Google-Extended setting governs grounding in Gemini Apps. Different crawlers and ranking systems produce different Scottsdale lists.

Which Scottsdale med spas did each AI assistant name for Botox and lip filler?

For Botox and lip filler in Scottsdale, each assistant gave its own top three, and only pairs of assistants overlapped. treatments in Scottsdale where any practice made every AI assistant’s top three (234 answers, measured September 16, 2026)

For GLP-1 weight loss in Scottsdale, four assistants returned usable answers. ChatGPT named NuGen Medicine, Scottsdale Weight Loss Center and Vitality Slim Clinic. Claude named Adam & Eve Medical Aesthetics, The Well Med Spa and Infinite Wellness Hormone Specialists. Gemini named MDSkin Lounge, Arizona Medical Medspa and Scottsdale Weight Loss Center. Perplexity named Scottsdale Weight Loss Center, Mayo Clinic and Canyon Ranch Wellness Club.

Across all 234 Scottsdale answers the assistants named 516 distinct practices. A Scottsdale practice at the top of one assistant’s list was not reliably on the others.

Which crawlers do ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity use to read a Scottsdale med spa website?

Each AI company publishes its own crawler names: OpenAI uses OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search, Google uses Googlebot for its AI features in Search, Anthropic uses Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User, and Perplexity uses PerplexityBot. A Scottsdale med spa website that blocks one of them can be missing from that assistant’s Scottsdale list while still appearing on the others. Allowing a crawler is a precondition for being read, not a promise of being named.

OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. Anthropic says blocking Claude-SearchBot may reduce a site’s visibility in Claude’s results, and Perplexity recommends allowing PerplexityBot. Microsoft says no optimization guarantees citations in AI experiences. We have not found a first-party page describing how Grok reads websites, so we make no statement about it.

The practical move for a Scottsdale owner is to open yourdomain.com/robots.txt and look for any line that disallows one of those names. OpenAI also asks that a site’s host allows traffic from OpenAI’s published searchbot IP addresses, so check the firewall as well.

Should I check more than one AI assistant for my Scottsdale med spa?

A Scottsdale med spa owner should check all five assistants, because in our Scottsdale measurement they disagreed on every treatment. A practice named by ChatGPT for Botox in Scottsdale, such as Moderne Medical Aesthetics, did not appear in any other assistant’s Botox top three. One assistant’s answer describes one list, not the Scottsdale market.

Use the same wording for each assistant, the way a Scottsdale patient would type it, and keep the treatment identical. If your practice appears on one assistant and not another, the difference points to that assistant’s crawler and sources rather than to your whole online presence.

Questions owners ask

Is one AI assistant more accurate than the others about Scottsdale med spas?

Our measurement does not rank the assistants for accuracy, and we make no claim that one is more reliable. What we measured is that ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity named different Scottsdale med spas in their top three for every treatment. The practical point is that each one needs checking.

Does Gemini use Google reviews to choose Scottsdale med spas?

Google says its local results in Maps and Search weigh relevance, distance and prominence, and that reviews contribute to prominence. Google has not said, on the pages we rely on, how the Gemini app chooses which Scottsdale med spas to name. We therefore make no claim that Google reviews decide Gemini’s picks.

Why does the same AI assistant give me different Scottsdale med spas on different days?

An AI assistant with web search rebuilds its answer from what it finds each time, and OpenAI says ChatGPT may rewrite a question into targeted search queries. Small changes in wording or in the pages found can change the Scottsdale list. Checking several questions over time gives a steadier picture than one answer.
